We train for lives not just our own but lives in our community, counting our victories not in miles ran or weights lifted but in lives saved and homes protected. We train for our brothers and sisters, a healthy firefighter makes everyone safer.
Challenging ourselves to improve everyday, training for every contingency. We provide our volunteers with the training and discipline so when a crisis strikes they have the skills and poise to face it head on. If you would like to gains these skills please consider volunteering

Meet The Officers
Allen Merritt
Fire Chief
Allen has lived in North Idaho for 16 years and in Naples for 8 years. Shortly after moving here, he volunteered at SBFPD, in the last 7 years he has continued his fire education and training.
Allen’s father served as fire chief in Oso, Washington for 20 years, and following in his footsteps has been a lifelong goal. During his tenure with SBFPD Allen has built rapport with the community and fellow volunteers, offering mentorship and guidance.
Wayne Wilkerson
Assistant Fire Chief
Serving the community of Naples first as the fire chief of the Naples volunteer firemen’s association and then as the volunteer assistant chief the South Boundary Fire Protection District in 2004. When Wayne is not busy maintaining the Kootenai wildlife refuge, he can usually be found enjoying the company of his many grandchildren.
Roy Holzhauser
Captain
Roy has been serving on the South Boundary Fire District for over ten years. Aside from being a volunteer firefighter Roy is also a qualified machinist, owning Royal Precision Machining for many years out of Sandpoint. Roy has fabricated numerous critical parts needed to keep our equipment running smoothly.
